Hour Contributions
Key Club is based on service, and each member of key club is asked to meet a hour requirement. Although the standard tends to vary slightly between the different clubs, the general requirement hovers around 50 hours a year. The LC Key Club requires all members to have 20 hours per semester. This leads to over 12 million service hours-per year! Hours gain members by volunteering in their community, and although each key club has the freedom to choose its own projects, there is a special area of focus titled Major Emphasis: “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.”, that each club is expected to participate in.
What is Key Club’s Major Emphasis “Children: Their Future, Our Focus”?
From the Key Club Website
"In 1946, Key Club International challenged all Key Clubs and members to focus energies on making an international impact. This program still is followed today through the Major Emphasis: “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.”
To fulfill the mission of the Major Emphasis, Key Club International serves children in many ways. Members participate in hands-on service which involves providing direct service within the community.
Key Clubs are also encouraged to participate in hands-on service and fund raise for the Eliminate Project and other partner organizations:Children’s Miracle Network, March of Dimes and UNICEF."
